From The February 2008 issue of Strings Magazine:
Snow Stringed Instruments has added the SIMONA VIOLIN (the name is Italian for one who listen) to its top JHS line. Offered in Strad & Guarneri models, the Simona is lightly antiqued compared to the distressed look of some of Snows less expensive student instruments. The top is made of aged German or Italian spruce and the back is made of the best-quality Chinese maple. All Simona and other JHS instruments are finished by Xueping (William) Hu, master of the Snow workshop. Hu does the sound adjustments and varnishing. The Simona uses a combination of oil varnish over spirit varnish, which is designed to bring out the best combination of tone and easy playability.
